1960s Ship's Wheel Compass Pendant

£480.00

What a cool piece of jewellery. Bold and super fun, and it actually carries a rather sentimental subtext; it’s all about guidance, sending you on the right path, or even finding your path, physical or moral. It also relates to protection, so we can look at this jewel as a loaded talisman. The combination of the ship’s wheel and the compass is such a strong metaphor, and one that I personally love.

I’ve had quite a few compass pendants/fobs, but only a few with the ship’s wheel, and this is a really lovely one, a good weight, great condition, and the compass needle spins freely (and vaguely in the right direction!).

Era

1963

Material

9ct yellow gold ship’s wheel and frame, and I think the actual compass is silver and steel

Hallmarks

Fully hallmarked for 9ct, with Birmingham date letter for 1963. and maker’s mark RC

Measurements

Diameter of whole piece 32mm

Weight

7.1 grams

Condition

Very good. This isn’t a cookie cutter piece of jewellery, it is hand made, and as a result, is not perfectly round and symmetrical, but it’s pretty damn close!
