19th Century 6ct Gold 4-Way Locket
Well I’ve certainly never had one of these before! I’ve not seen 6ct gold before, and definitely never had a locket with four compartments. What a special piece! The low carat gold is the perfect mix of silver and gold in colour, and you can be sure the metal is good and strong.
Super ornate on front and back, there’s a little shield, with super intricate foliate engraving on the front panel. On the reverse, there’s a beautiful floral arrangement with all sorts of scrolling and scalloped borders, so very pretty.
There are four compartments, easily accessible, unlike some antique lockets! You just need to decide who or what to place inside! A gorgeous substantial locket, that you certainly won’t see two of.
Era
Circa 1880
Country of Origin
Not sure exactly! But European (not French).
Material
6ct gold (XRF tested)
Hallmarks
A very interesting mark on the bale, a sort of lozenge divided up into sections, possibly a registration mark
Measurements
44mm long in its entirety. The locket without bale measures 31 × 26 × 10mm
Weight
11 grams
Condition
Very good antique condition. Each compartment is easy to open and secure. The insides have clearly been ‘refurbished’ with lilac card and some kind of thin plastic cover. The double sided central section lacks a ‘rim’ on one side and has no ‘glazing’. It is a truly remarkable piece in wonderful condition.
