Antique 9ct Yellow Gold Open Link Albert Chain
I do love a decent albert chain, and I do love an open link version. The gold is more ‘spaced out’ so you get more bang for your buck. This one is a gloriously rich yellow, it must have been flashed in a high carat at some point. It’s super yellow but not that awful ‘radioactive’ yellow you sometimes see, it just looks like it’s 18ct. No bad thing…
A pair of gorgeous dog clips fasten the chain, they are almost identical, but the marks don’t match, they have different maker’s marks. It could very well have always been like this, jewellers would use what they had available!
Each link is stamped, and one (yeah I was amazed I spotted it!) has a Chester Assay mark and date letter for 1920, how cool is that?1 I’m wondering how many I have missed in the past! Chester will always feel super special to me, as their assay office closed in 1962, so the mark doesn’t exist in later jewellery.
Forever a classic and a staple of the antique jewellery lover (when finances allow, of course) you can’t go wrong with this buttery babe.

1920

9ct yellow gold (flashed in a higher carat)

Excellent. There is an ‘extra’ oval jump ring on the central ring, please let me know if you would like me to remove it.
