Antique French 'FIX' Intertwined Brooch
This brooch is the perfect example of excellent costume jewellery that makes you look twice (more like five times!). It’s French, it’s rolled gold (the French mark this FIX) and it is an utterly convincing imitation of a fine gold brooch. Sinuous intertwined tubes create a beautiful knotted emblem, and a little garnet to the centre finishes it all off (I THINK it’s a garnet, very tricky to know for sure at that size, but it isn’t paste).
Super chic worn high up on the shoulder, or pin to your lapel/collar, she could even be converted to a pendant (I have had a fiddle, it looks fab on a chain). A beautiful piece of ‘faux’ jewellery and no-one would ever know.
Era
Circa 1900
Country of origin
France
Material
Rolled gold and garnet
Hallmarks
A small place stamped FIX on the reverse
Measurements
14 × 27mm
