Antique Lapis Lazuli 'Pumpkin' Pendant
I mean, WOW! Super-sized and just the most incredible object, but you can wear it! This beautiful piece of lapis is an incredible specimen, so deeply vivid in hue, but with the most generous smattering of pyrite, it is mesmerising.
This pumpkin style carving is from around 1925, when Mughal India had a huge influence on jewellery designers, carved stones were de rigour, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and yes, lapis lazuli. Maybe this was part of an outrageous bead necklace once upon a time, it’s impossible to know for sure, but the carving is exquisite. Precise and perfectly symmetrical, segmented in a wqay I could never draw, let alone carve!
A wholly unique and very special jewel, this would look incredible on a mid-length chain, just get ready to fiddle with this very tactile gem!
