Mega Antique Diamond Set Puffy Heart Pendant with Diamond Bale
Oh. My. Goodness.
I think all my jewellery dreams came true with this one! This voluptuous gold heart is just insanely good. It’s bold, it’s unapologetic, and she’s set with diamonds. What’s not to love?! The heart dates to around 1890, and a bit later on it was set with three gorgeous diamonds. I’m presuming it was a bit later, as the bottom biggest one is an old cut, and the other two are later cuts. They are all set the same way, so my thinking is someone had a dig in their loose diamond bag and came up with these three! It’s the perfect example of sustainability. The two smaller stones are quite white and the old cut (and the ones in the bale) draws a bit of colour. So full of character.
And then we come to the bale; this is actually earlier than the heart, and is set with the most amazing little oval old cut diamonds, set east to west. It is removeable so you have the wonderful bonus of being able to use it on other pieces. I agonised over whether to sell it separately but decided to keep it with the heart. It works so well, and really elevates the already incredible pendant.
I have never had anything like this, and as a massive fan of heart jewellery, it’s really up there with my all time favourite finds.
Era
The heart is circa 1890, the bale a little earlier.
Material
Diamonds, the heart is 10ct rose gold (stamped 375 but actually XRF tests as 10!) and the bale is silver and gold
Hallmarks
The heart is stamped 375 with a lovely little mark I don’t recognise
Measurements
The heart measures 34.5 × 33 × 9mm without the bale, which is 12mm long. I would estimate the old cut diamond at the bottom to weigh approximately 0.5ct and the two later cuts 0.25ct
Weight
13.2g
Condition
Great antique condition. She’s old, she’s been loved! A few teeny dents to the heart, a teeny bit of wear where the first bale meets the heart, but structurally sound. There is a little abrasion on the old cut diamond, virtually impossible to see with the naked eye.
