Mega Victorian Vulcanite Mariner Chain

£265.00
Sold Out

Talk about cool, talk about impact, arrrgh I love this chain. Vulcanite (just in case you don’t know) is a kind of rubber that has been toughened with sulphur and heat. It’s a clever process and was patented in 1844 in America by Charles Goodyear. in 1861, Prince Albert died, and poor Queen Victorian entered her mourning era, only wearing black for the rest of her life. An unintentional trend for all things black exploded, and Vulcanite jewellery, available to all sorts of budgets, was hugely popular.

This chain is so amazing to wear today, it’s brave and bold (but also light and easy to wear). All you need is a white t-shirt/nice crisp shirt, for maximum impact. I love how modern it looks, while simultaneously being wrapped up in all that history.

Vulcanite and base metal clip

Very good, so good! Not a break or chip anywhere. I do suspect the clasp has been replaced, there may have been a prettier one once, but it functions just fine
