Victorian Saphiret Heart Pendant
You can see why the Victorians thought this stuff had magical powers! It’s amazing! Mesmerising colour changes from blue to red/brown are unique to this stone, which is in fact glass that has been fused with gold during the manufacturing process. It’s all quite complicate and very clever, but it was mastered in what was the Czech Republic in the 19th century, in a place called Gablonz. Highly sought after (it is a finite material, production ceased due to rising gold prices, hmmm does that ring a bell?!) and collectable, and prized for it’s insane dichroic colour displays, it’s a truly incredible material.
Often saphiret jewellery is matte, but this is polished, which only furthers the beauty of the colour show. One side is faceted, the other cabochon, and they throw out the light differently, it is so so beautiful.
This heart is just divine, look at it under different light and you see different colours. Simply mounted with a gold bale, the whole piece is on exposed to show off the wonderful colours it throws out. It seems to glow from within!
