Victorian Vulcanite Rollo Chain with Large Relief Pendant
Oh my word! What a work of art! What a statement! I love vulcanite, it’s not only a super interesting and striking material, but it is SO VERY Victorian, and fitted in perfectly with Queen Victoria’s sad girl era. The timing of its development was perfect.
This piece is remarkable, a super cool rollo type chain suspends a mega pear shaped pendant, of a beautiful lady in very high relief. I adore the detail and the beading around the edge. Vulcanite was moulded, so it allowed for new sense of creativity with less labour involved. This necklace is such an epic jewel, big and bold, all you need is a white t-shirt or crisp shirt to show it off.
Era
Victorian
Material
Vulcanite (vulcanised rubber) and base metal clasp
Measurements
19.5’ long, links 14mm wide, pendant is 70mm long not including the bale
Weight
52 grams
Condition
Great antique condition, small patches of fading on a couple of links. The pendant sits slightly off centre when laid flat, which suggests a couple of links have been lost
